Elizabeth Bertha was born before her mother married. As an illegitimate daughter, she appears to have been bought up by her maternal grandparents (Sarah and Edward Relf) because in both 1861 and 1871 she is living with her grandparents and since the 1871 Census was some years after her mother had married it is most probable that Elizabeth was bought up by her Grandparents. |
