Notes for biography |
Feature named after her:-
* Shylie Rymill Street in Bonython. |
Notes for biography |
Relationship with Samuel:-
* Shylie was about 16 years old at the time Kitty and Samuel. So she would have become part of the Montefiore household for a few years. She was married 8 years later.
* Samuel Way?s will : How names have appeared in Samuel's will have given clues about his relationship with them. I notice Kitty's children are treated differently with both Shylie & Archibald being left 2000 pounds, William 'just' 500 pounds and Sinclair did not get a mention. Shylie had probably been close to Kitty and undoubtedly shared much of Kitty's and Samuel's inter-family life as well as their lives in the high-society of Adelaide.

Biography |
Shylie was named after one of her father's race horses.
"Many of the horses which have won fame on the tracks elsewhere have been bred in or near Strathalbyn, the late Dr Blue's stud ...... have reared animals whose renown was not confined to this state only, the progeny of Shylie Bawn" (From JW Elliott's Jottings in Southern Argus on 26th March 1914, p3).
Shylie Bawn ran at the Onkaparinga races (SA Register, 3rd April 1877, p6) and SAJC Spring Meeting (SA Advertiser, 5th Oct 1878, p13). There was another horse with the same name in 1909-1911.
Shylie Baum is an Irish melody. |
